  • West Ham continue talks to sign replacement for outgoing Marko Arnautovic

Maxi Gomez is West Ham's top priority this January

West Ham star striker Marko Arnautovic is getting closer and closer to finally completing a move to China with rich club Guangzhou Evergrande set to complete the deal which is reported to be around £45million very soon.

The East London club are lining up Uruguayan striker Maxi Gomez as the potential replacement for the want-away Arnautovic, according to reports from The Daily Mail.

The deal to get Gomez to London Stadium could potentially be as much as £44million as it is his buyout clause.

Celta Vigo will be extremely reluctant to let go of their key player but if West Ham can strike his buyout clause then talks will still continue.

The Paysandu-born striker has featured for Celta Vigo in 19 occasions this season. He has scored 9 goals and created 5 more.

Manuel Pellegrini have actually been looking at other potential names too.

Callum Wilson was also considered, but Bournemouth's high valuation and his injury-stained records mean that the Hammers won't continue their pursuit.

Mario Balotelli was also on the cards. The Italy international striker has only six months left in his contract with French club OGC Nice and will be available at a cut-price fee should they want to sign him this month or for no fee at all if they want to sign him in the summer.

Despite that, Balotelli is actually much closer to striking a deal with Olympique de Marseille though so Pellegrini will want to focus on getting Maxi Gomez instead.
