  • Where could AC Milan finish this season?

Vincenzo Montella giving directions to his players

Serie A giants AC Milan have been dubbed as 'the winner of the summer transfer window' after capturing magnificent players without the spotlight of enormous fees.

But could they be winning Serie A this season? Would they be lifting the Coppa Italia by the end of the season? What can they achieve in Europa League? Bear with me as I give you my reports of the club's
movement this summer and judgement of their current squad. I will also give my own prediction of where AC Milan could finish this season.

So, after the takeover, Milan now has fresh funds to finance the club to bring in the best talents available in the world right now.

So far they have successfully brought in 10 new faces to San Siro, some of them on loan with an option to buy, some of them are permanent signings.

Here are their summer signings so far:

-Mateo Musacchio, 26, centre-back. Bought from Villareal for €15.30m

-Franck Kessie, 20, defensive midfield. Loaned from Atalanta with obligation to buy (loan fee: €6.80m)

-Fabio Borini, 26, striker/winger. On loan from Sunderland (loan fee: €1.1m) with option to buy for €6m

-Antonio Donnarumma, 27, goalkeeper. Signed from Asteras Tripolis for €1.28m

-Leonardo Bonucci, 30, centre-back. Bought from Juventus for €35.70m

-Lucas Biglia, 31, defensive midfield. Bought for €14.45m from Lazio

They have also renewed their star player Gianluigi Donnarumma's contract

Despite already signing 10, there's still no sign that they are slowing down this summer with names like Renato Sanches and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang still in their viewfinder.

With fresh money thrown in by the new owners, Milan can bring in the best players available to strengthen Vincenzo Montella's current squad.

But with those many players coming into the squad, there must be some that have to be offloaded.

Indeed, Juraj Kucka, Diego Lopez, Andrea Poli, and Keisuke Honda have left AC Milan this summer to Trabzonspor, Espanyol, Bologna, and CF Pachuca respectively. Andrea Bertolacci has also left Milan for Genoa on loan.

Juraj Kucka is potentially offloaded this summer

But there are also other players in current Milan squad who have been linked with moves to other teams this summer and could potentially be leaving. They are Carlos Bacca, M'baye Niang, Mattia De Sciglio, and Suso.

Milan also have exciting youngsters in their current squad with the likes of Patrick Cutrone, Giovanni Crociata, Jose Mauri, Manuel Locatelli, Davide Calabria, and Gian Filippo Felicioli. Those hot prospects could link up with Milan Primavera squad, go out on loan, or be utilised in the senior side this season, it all depends on Montella's decision.

Overally, AC Milan currently have a very strong and balanced squad.

    AC Milan squad training

Last season, AC Milan finished 6th in Serie A, while managing to reach the quarter-finals of Coppa Italia. They also successfully won Supercoppa Italiana by beating Juventus 4-3 on penalties.

In my opinion, AC Milan could very well finish in a strong position in the upcoming Serie A campaign, at least better than their 6th placed finish last season and secure a European spot.

They also have a chance to reach the latter stages of Coppa Italia, I think.

They might do well in Europa League (if they make it through the qualifying round, which I'm confident they will), they could be able to reach at least the quarter-finals of UEFA Europa League.

I know it might be too early to judge where Milan could finish this season, especially if we're only judging by the strength of the squad right now, but squad composition is always an important factor in football and if Montella can create a tactic that could suit the team and keep their performances consistently, they could well be title contenders in any competition.
