  • One to Watch: Realizing the huge potential in Hirving Lozano

Hirving Lozano is in an impressive form with Dutch reigning champions PSV Eindhoven

Mexico aren't short of football talents in recent years with up-and-coming talents like Diego Lainez, Eduardo Aguirre, Roberto Alvarado, Cesar Montes, and Jorge Sanchez, all who impressed in the 2018 Toulon Youth Tournament in France have been attracting eyes from all across Europe. But today we're going to talk about Hirving Lozano who is the latest talent to shine brightly in Europe.

Lozano came to Dutch team PSV Eindhoven on June 2017 signing a six-year contract with the club who have a very successful history in the Netherlands. There were some controversies regarding his transfer move though, he was initially reported to have agreed a move to Manchester City signing a five-year contract for £7.20m, but this story was later confirmed to be untrue. Several weeks later the club's official social media accounts announced the signing of the 21-year-old winger who turns 22 this year.

Lozano, nicknamed Chucky - didn't need to take much time to make an impression at the Philips Stadion as he scored a goal in his debut in the Eredivisie for PSV against AZ Alkmaar helping his team to a 3-2 victory. The Mexican hot prospect is an integral part to Phillip Cocu's side in this season campaign as they managed to come out on top in Eredivisie, Chucky scored 19 goals and assisted 11 times in 34 matches in all competitions in the process.

His impressive performances have been rewarded with a call-up by Juan Carlos Osorio to bolster the Mexico national team in the World Cup - and in the World Cup itself he has proven himself as one of the most talented wingers in the world nowadays, demonstrating his quality with a vital winning goal against Germany and a huge assist against South Korea.

The 22-year-old winger has blazing pace, once he successfully knocks the ball past his man, there's a little chance that he could be caught. This quickness that he has has been utilized properly by Phillip Cocu at PSV and Juan Carlos Osorio at Mexico as he is tasked to stay forward and be the target of the team's counter-attack.

The right-footed winger is also technically sound, has a good body balance, and very nimble-footed.

Lozano is rather versatile in front, able to play anywhere up front. He often switches flanks in order to confuse his marker and disrupt the opposition's defensive line.

The 22-year-old Mexican is equally strong with both feet, but he is naturally right-footed. He likes to try long shots, sometimes they are on target, but some other times they're well off the goal.

The only minus for this lad is his lack of discipline and his defensive contribution. Chucky is a bit reckless with his tackles sometimes, but he often showed a determination to win the ball back after losing it, which is actually a positive thing, but he obviously needs a lot of training on this particular skill.

Despite only spending a year with the Dutch champions, Hirving Lozano is now tipped to make a huge move to European giants. La Liga victors FC Barcelona and Manchester United have both been rumoured to be highly interested in the player. Arsenal are said to be looking into the PSV Eindhoven starlet too as he seemed to be similar to Alexis Sanchez who used to be an indispensable player for them.

Hirving Lozano is a player with immense potential. I believe he could definitely grow to be a much better player than he is now.
